Unresolved traumatic experience can give rise to a wide range of symptoms. These may include any of the following:
- anxiety
- depression
- stress
- hyper-vigilance (always being on the look out for danger), inability to relax
- flashbacks (includes feeling like past events are happening right now, or unsafe for no obvious reason)
- nightmares, disturbed sleep
- numbness or lack of feeling or emotion, inability to feel pleasure

- dissociation/ 'spacing-off'/ de-realisation (things not feeling real)
- difficulty distinguishing what's important right now
- self-blame, guilt
- difficulty with relationships, sexual issues

- suicidal thoughts
- use of drugs, alcohol, self-harm or obsessive work to 'escape' or deaden feeling
